Dr. Susan Sayles, DVM & Owner
Dr. Sayles graduated from Michigan State University in 1997. Her first job was walking ponies. She knew in the first grade that veterinary medicine was going to be her career, and took the steps to make her dream come true. Dr. Sayles started here in 1997 and purchased the clinic in 2001. She has the support of her husband Nick and her daughter Katie. Through the years, she has owned a rat, finches, goldfish, ducks, chicken, a rabbit, dogs, and cats. Dottie, the Chihuahua, was rescued with a broken leg that Dr. Sayles repaired prior to adopting her. Her special areas of interest are in ophthalmology, behavior, and surgery.
Dr. Carla Playford, DVM
Dr. Playford graduated from MSU in 2007. She is driven by her love of all animals. Dr. Playford has owned horses and enjoys riding in her spare time. She juggles work with caring for her four children and her husband Bill. Her family is close, as she grew up in Hillsdale and practiced there until 2010 when she moved to Kalamazoo. She enjoys internal medicine and dermatology, as well as educating pet owners on preventative care. She has a Flat-Coat Retriever named Elwood.

Mindy, Lead LVT
Mindy graduated in 1999 from the Wayne State Licensed Veterinary Technician program. She shares her home with Gus and Lucas, the German Shorthair Pointers, two cats named Gemma and Cheddar, and a tortoise named Franco. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and crafting.
Amber, LVT
Amber is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who graduated from the Baker College Veterinary Technician Program in 2016. She is excited to be able to work with animals every day and is very passionate about patient care. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, family, and 4 dogs. Amber also likes crafting, horseback riding, and camping.
Darcy, Office Manager
Marla, LVT
Marla graduated from MSU in 2009 with a BS in Fisheries & Wildlife. She has been working in animal shelters and veterinary clinics since 2012. Several years in Alaska and Nevada led her back to Michigan, joining the BRVC team in 2017. She graduated from Baker College in 2021 with an AS in Veterinary Technology, becoming certified as an LVT. She enjoys hiking, backpacking, and being outdoors with her two dogs.
Mandi, AVA
Mandi first came to BRVC in 2002. She quickly progressed from animal care in the kennel to Veterinary Assistant and has become certified as an Approved Veterinary Assistant through the National Association of Veterinary Technicians. She has experience with behavior and training through the Karen Pryor Puppy Start Right Program. Mandi strives to help pet parents find ways to make their dog a well-rounded part of the family.
Karen, Veterinary Assistant
Karen is a 35+ year retired educator. She was on staff at Cascades Humane Society for over 10 years working in Animal Care as a Surgical Assistant, Head Adoption Counselor, and Admissions Associate. Karen has been married for almost 45 years to her husband Jerry. Growing up on a farm, her love of animals has always been a part of her life. She has had dogs but now has Sir Cedric, an 11-year-old Maine Coon cat. An interesting fact is that Dr. Sayles, who owns the practice, was a former 4th-grade student of Karen’s at VCL schools.

Jennifer, CSR
Jennifer joined the BRVC team as a Receptionist in 2020. She is a retired educator. She is married to her husband Jeff and has a grown son. She is a lifelong animal lover when she retired as an educator, she decided the perfect retirement job would be working at the Veterinary clinic that has cared for her animals for over 20 years! Jennifer currently has three dogs — Jersey, Auggie, and Bella — as well as a guinea pig named Porter T. Pig.
Robeyn, CSR
Robeyn has been married to her husband Tim for 42 years and has two children, Sara and Anthony, and one son-in-law Justin. She loves being a grammy to her two beautiful adult granddaughters, Shilynn & Kaity. Robeyn has two dogs, Mya (Boxer/Mastiff) & JoJo (Min Pin/Chihuahua), and two cats, Zeus (Siamese) & Snowy (White Cat). She has always loved animals and wanted to work with them. When she is not working, she enjoys watching Nascar, Detroit Tigers, Notre Dame football, walking my dogs, building Legos, going to the movies, and spending time with her family.
Erin, Lead Kennel
Erin loves animals, especially Boxers. She would like to one day open an animal rescue. She is very close with her family and has many nieces & nephews she absolutely adores! In her spare time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, hanging out with friends & family, and playing with her nieces/nephews. She has a Boxer named Ryder and a Pitbull named Charli.
Autumn, LVT/Social Media Director
Autumn graduated from Baker College and passed the board examination to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2023. She dreamed of working with animals since she was little and is excited to be able to fulfill that goal. In her spare time, Autumn enjoys crafting, going on the lake, and spending time with her family. She is also the Social Media Director for BRVC and keeps everyone updated with posts of timely topics and helpful information.

Laura joined our team in 2019 and brings with her extensive customer service experience along with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Laura enjoys traveling with her husband and Texas Heeler “Pal”. In addition to her dog, she has a geriatric horse, two goats, and two barn cats.

Terri, Lead CSR
Terri came to BRVC in May of 2023 after working in human healthcare for 20 years. She always had a love for animals and wanted to work with them. Terri lives on a small hobby farm with her husband of 21 years as well as her mother, daughter and grandson. It is home to 2 horses, 2 donkeys, 5 dogs, 8 cats and a flock of chickens, with hopes of adding goats and Highland cattle to the family in the future!
